About the Artist
A Multi-Talented Musician
Amy Boedigheimer is an exceptional trumpet player and educator. She is thankful to have received numerous opportunities to develop her career over the course of her studies at Central Washington University (CWU). While her education primarily focused on classical performance, Amy has years of experience performing in jazz big bands and jazz combos. One of her favorite experiences at CWU was forming the all-woman jazz combo, the Lady Cats, which performed around Washington State and was featured on KNKX Radio. As a classical artist, she has had the privilege of participating in several professional performances including those with the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra and Yakima Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of the CWU Trumpet Quintet at international conferences including the William Adam International Trumpet Seminar, the International Trumpet Guild Conference, and the National Trumpet Competition. She has also been fortunate enough to have earned several awards and honors as a trumpet soloist including the Young Artist Concerto Competition in (Hermiston, OR), the 2023 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Honorable Mention, the CWU Presser Award, various GCC International Music Competitions, and performances at the National Trumpet Competition.
In addition to her passion for performance, Amy has a profound ability to teach. She delights in discussing the pedagogy of playing the trumpet, hearing young trumpet players develop new skills, and helping to shape their growth over time. She has had the pleasure of teaching several young middle school and high school students throughout the Pacific Northwest in both private lessons and group sectionals. Throughout her time working with these schools, she made lasting connections with students and educators and imparted skills including marching band technique, trumpet solo and small ensemble literature, performance preparation, music literacy, ensemble rehearsal techniques, and music theory. She has had the pleasure of rehearsing ensembles such as small and large brass ensemble, wind band, and jazz band. She also has extensive experience with elementary general music education and has worked closely with Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School in Ellensburg, WA.
Another passion of Amy's is her involvement in the female brass community as an advocate for young female brass musicians and a historian of the individuals and ensembles that made her education and performance career possible. As a female brass player, she understands the unique challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field. She often reflects on how lucky she has been to have had supportive colleagues and teachers along the way encouraging her to be the best musician she can be regardless of her gender. In 2021, Amy began volunteering for the International Women’s Brass Conference. Over the next year she worked on various social media projects, conducted interviews, and had an article published by the IWBC Noteworthy Newsletter (Winter 2022). She was overjoyed to finally attended her first IWBC conference in 2022. This year she was selected to participate in the 2024 IWBC Mentorship program and has sincerely enjoyed connecting with her mentor, Toni LeFebvre. Community and representation are vital to the success of young musicians, and it is Amy's hope to continue to be a role model and mentor for the next generation of young trumpet players.
Who is Amy beyond the trumpet?
Like all musicians, Amy has a life outside of music! She knows the importance of a healthy balance between work and play, and she shares that with the many important people in her life. One of which is her adorable pet snake, Monty! But her biggest inspiration and loving supporter is her partner, Jacob. She is also very close with her family back in Washington State.
